OCA APAA New England Praises the Appointment of Jason Chan as Associate Justice of the District Court

Jason Y. Chan has been appointed to serve as Associate Justice of the District Court. His swearing in ceremony has been scheduled for August 8, 2022. Recently, Jason served as the Vice President of the board of directors for the New England Chapter of the OCA Asian Pacific American Advocate. He has been essential with the re-activation of the chapter. Without Jason’s encouragement, infectious positive attitude and staunch support, the organization would not have the opportunity to empower and inspire the next generation of AAPI leaders.

Not only did Jason help to establish the chapter’s extremely successful and well-attended youth leadership and mentorship programs, he also volunteered to guide two high school students.

“When I think about Jason as a mentor and the qualities he possesses, I can’t think of someone better fit for the job than him,” said Ryan Dear, rising freshman at Boston College. “He consistently makes himself available as a resource and outlet for help, as well as inspiring the next generation of minorities who feel as if they can’t make it into positions of significant power.”

“Jason is always looking to help us and is persistent in making others around him feel welcome,” said Devin Dear. “Seeing an Asian in such a high position is refreshing to see because it challenges the Asian stereotype of being the passive minority.”

Jason is a graduate of Hopedale Jr. Sr. High School, and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Northeastern University. He also holds a Juris Doctorate Degree from the New England School of Law in Boston. After graduation, he joined Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.’s office as Assistant District Attorney.

Over the years, Jason has spent his time volunteering at different non-profit organizations. He participated in mock trials, student mentorship programs and free law advisory sessions for the community. He previously served on the boards of the Asian American Lawyers Association, Kwong Kow Chinese School and The Net of Compassion.

Jason’s unselfish dedication to the youth, AAPI community and public service will undoubtedly be a great benefit to all the people he serves.
