With the staunch rise in Anti-Asian hate crimes, racism and violence, as leaders we are tasked upon the duty to strongly advocate for our fellow citizens. Through education, workshops, conversations and collaborations we will work to dispel racist misconceptions that dangerously impact the most vulnerable members of our communities.

Statement on Nextshark highlighting racist title against Mayor Michelle Wu in headline
OCA New England stands against racism and denounces the racist remarks against Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.
We are appalled by the disrespectful and inflammatory comments that have been hurled at Mayor Michelle Wu. We are extremely disappointed that the editors at Next Shark chose to condone this behavior by including this type of language in their headline. Including name calling in the headline will only legitimize the inappropriate and offensive title.
We call on you to refer to Mayor Michelle Wu by her name and honorable title. In addition, we ask you to carefully consider writing or repeating insulting words that threaten journalistic integrity. Each and every one of us can stand up against racist rhetoric. We find repeating the reference in the derogatory terms disrespectful, we ask you to remove the headline.
